HA! Sara also doesn't like blue cheese. She is going to make it for me and Geoff anyway as we both love it (she's good like that) but I think she is planning on making herself some auxiliary soup in the event that she hates the dressing as much as she thinks she will.
I am going to have to do this recipe later on...we have a bad week ahead of us, we just had a death in the family and will be busy this week. I'll post it hopefully with April 9th's - hubby loves blue cheese, so I can't just NOT do it!
I mixed the dressing up earlier today. It seems like its going to be a little yogurty. Maybe the flavors will mellow out after sitting in the fridge for a couple of hours. Stay tuned!
I thought the dressing turned out great. It was not think like blue cheese normally is -- which I really liked. While I did think the dressing was a bit yogurty by itself, mixed with the salad and the chicken, the flavors were great!
I love blue cheese and hot sauce so I am looking forward to this!! Maybe sub gorgonzola for a milder cheese...not sure if that would work for blue cheese haters. But I think that subbing ranch is a great idea!!
I made this last night for Nick and our friend Geoff. Since I was not eating it, I made the chicken extra spicy with some chili oil that we have. I also added extra cheese to the dressing, and pureed it with my immersion blender so the actual dressing had a more cheesy flavor. I used a Stilton, which Nick thought was a little too sweet. Overall, this got 2 thumbs up - comments were to use red onion instead of green onion, and I think some celery in the salad would also be nice.
Made this tonight, it was soooooo good. Soooooooo good. I simplified the dressing recipe and omitted the mayo and buttermilk, and it was still awesome. I used Frank's Red Hot as the hot sauce, per my brother's recommendation, and he is quite the hot sauce expert.
I think I might pass on this week. Not because the recipe looks bad but because I have made something like this before on my own. The original Buffalo Wings were tossed in a sauce made from Frank's Red Hot Sauce and butter/margarine. When I was on a certain diet plan I would often toss grilled chicken breast in a mixture of franks and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray and serve it on a salad with lettuce, carrots, and celery. I skip the dressing because I do not like blue cheese or ranch dressing and it has a nice clean bite with out it.
Then again I do have some left over chicken in the freezer and some salad veggies just screaming to be used ;)
I don't like blue cheese so I think I will sub feta in and make a dressing with it. Any other ideas!

ReplyDeleteWhat about ranch instead of blue cheese? I believe Ellie has a recipe in the book, or here's a good one from Epicurious:

ReplyDeleteI was actually thinking red onion would be better too...I think that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for the review!
